Eden Valley Prawns is an independent family business growing fresh King Prawns on land along the Eden Estuary in Scotland. Our King Prawns are grown using Scottish sunshine, clean seawater, and high-quality feed. Our team is passionate about delivering fresh and nutritious, quality local seafood straight to your kitchen.
Our King Prawns are grown on land in thermally efficient buildings using state-of-the-art technology supplied by Rastech Ltd.
Our warm water prawns are heated using biomass and the equipment is powered by the sun. The filtration equipment, which keeps the water clean, is so efficient that minimal water is added to the system. Even shrimp waste is used to fertilize crops. Nothing goes to waste. The enclosed environment means we do not have to worry about diseases, so there is no need to use antibiotics or harmful chemicals in the growing process. King Prawns imported into the UK originate from places like Thailand, Indonesia, and South America. Large-scale mangrove deforestation makes room for outdoor ponds filled with harsh chemicals and antibiotics to combat diseases in the dirty water. The King Prawns we all eat in the UK are responsible for up to 1,600kg CO2e for every 1kg produced. On top of that they travel up to 7,200 food miles to reach your plate. Due to the distance, they must be frozen and can be months old when you purchase them. The King Prawns are also treated with sulphite preservatives which many people are allergic to. Shocking, right??
As a company we set out to prove that this was not the only way to produce what is the most popular seafood on the planet. After many years of trial and error we now have a proven solution to grow King Prawns in Scotland, without the use of antibiotics, sulphites, harmful chemicals or the need to destroy mangrove forests. Not only are our King Prawns better for you, but they are also better for the planet.
